KUALA LUMPUR: There was no rush like previously at petrol stations in the city last night following the announcement that the price of RON97 would go by 10 sen to RM2.40 a litre from today.
A user, Halim Othman Asman, in his 30s, said he was not aware of the increase until the staff at a petrol station in Subang told him about it. "I decided to fill it up."
Said K. Anand, 32: "I was also told about the increase by the pump attendant. Although it is only 10 sen, I wished it had not gone up."
Other car owners were glad the price of RON95 is unchanged at RM1.90 a litre. Diesel remains at RM1.80 a litre and LPG at RM1.90 a kg.
Petrol Dealers Association of Malaysia president Datuk Hashim Othman had announced earlier the prices of RON97 petrol and kerosene would be increased by 10 sen, effective midnight. Kerosene now costs RM2.50 a litre.
The government announced on July 16 last year the price of RON97 would be subjected to a managed float to reflect the price of petrol in the global market.
The last time the price of RON97 went up was on Dec 1, when there was a 15 sen increase.
